Me, confidently addressing the people of Düsseldorf the other night.
No idea who Duffledorce are, but they seemed lovely.
I had a thought afterwards. Maybe when we wake up, the film starts again. Blank. Wiped clean. An Etch A Sketch of some of the soul. And all we really have is the forthcoming 24 hours. I know we only have the present. Stay with me.
Maybe that’s why none of it sticks.
Maybe yesterday’s achievement belongs to yesterday’s version of you. Yesterday’s dream. Yesterday’s sand.
That is, if you’re of a similar disposition to me.
Maybe it’s enough for that day.
‘It’ ,whatever it is, often appears very important from the outside. A giant spectacle must equal giant meaning. Surely. You’d think that would be the maths. Surely your blood type becomes whichever one is laced with sequins.
They say the body keeps score, and I get that. Whatever I put into it, I feel in my system the next day.
The mind, however (or mine) is shit at keeping score. It’s got dyscalculia.
The World: 1,000,000. You: -15.
It’s very good at holding trauma, though. Excellent scorekeeper when it comes to that. Keeps those records immaculate.
After the second night in Düsseldorf, for example, there was serenity. A nice exhale. Comfort. Accomplishment. A wonderful audience. A grateful pop star.
I, however, woke up middle-aged, spent, drained and cloudy.
What goes up must have a carb chaser the next day.
I don’t know. I’m just looking for a reason why none of this sticks.
I’m not unhappy. I’m perfectly fine.
Just standing outside what feels like a massive life, trying to work out the maths.
That’s why I like seeing this as a job. If it’s not a job, it’s a drug. And drugs do drug things, don’t they?
When it wasn’t a job, it was a drug called Connection. Acceptance. Need. Desire.
Or C.A.N.D. for short.
I get absolutely muntered on C.A.N.D.
“When did you feel like you’d made it?”
Next week, maybe.

Manchester United are going all in for Mateusz Fernandez, with talks ongoing between the player, West Ham, and United. 🔴

But £85 million? Football transfer fees are getting crazier every year. Nowadays, clubs put a massive price tag on almost every top player you ask for someone and the answer is £80m, £90m, or even £100m💰

Still, if United truly believe he’s the right man for the project, they might have to pay the price. Let’s see how this transfer saga unfolds.
