The woman in the photo with him is Anna Eva Fay, a well known medium and mentalist of the day. It seems that she drew the attention of Houdini due to her use of magic tricks to make her act more convincing, which intrigued and baffled even Houdini himself.

This is particularly amusing because he was famously an opponent of the Spiritualist movement. Upon further research, it turns out he actually had a magic lantern show that he used during a lecture where he would speak out against mediums and the sort which he called "Can the Dead Speak to the Living?".
