"Twilight Hunt", my painting for
@moderneden's Masquerade show, which is on display and available now! I love that I was able to play with my usual chimera creatures and flip the concept of wearing a mask. I imagined a large bird of prey disguising itself as human to lure men to their deaths. Not all men, of course, only the ones who deserve it.
Acrylic painting on handmade canvas scroll. 33" x 29". If you're worried about displaying a painting in this way without a frame, I can assure you that this is superior to stretched canvas. Paintings have been made this way for thousands of years in Asia, far longer than gessoed stretched canvas. The likelihood of damage is much lower because it remains flexible, and my painting method allows the pigment to bind with the fibres, so the paint will never crack or peel. Just keep it out of direct sunlight as you would with any acrylic painting.
You can view this in-person in San Francisco or online via the link in my profile.
ID: a painting of a winged creature in flight, it has a feathered body, large raptor-like head and wings but human legs. An eerie mask of a human-face is perched on its head, like a disguise. The background is a dusky rainbow sky with stars dotting it.
