Some close-ups of Cerberus. This creature is all about hybridity and transformation, for me. I like to contrast a placid human face with dynamic animals because I want to convey the emotions that go unseen, especially as femmes conditioned to always appear pleasant to others. I painted this on raw canvas that I primed with thinned clear gesso, so that it was like watercolor paper that could hold all that texture.

One week left to see this painting in person at @core.gallery.seattle. More info over at liminalhymns.com. For inquiries, please email info@liminalhymns.com.

A closeup and video of the, as yet, unnamed painting I recently posted. The camera washed out some of the pretty greens but I'm sure you get the idea.
.
Image: a close-up of an oil painting, which is of an androgynous masculine person looking demurely over his shoulder, with soft golden eyes and lips curled in a playful pout. The overall painting is dominated by teal greens, giving the image an underwater feeling, while the man's skin has flecks of pastel gold, pink, blue and purple. The image is painted on a sculptural platter of silver plated copper, so bits of both metals shine through areas of the painting, particularly in the shadows. by @tigerdaughter_

I’ve been painting away and getting nice feedback from folks in person. It’s been good to not be dumping my entire soul online, and I almost forgot that that was something I could do! And so now, here's some good old fashioned photos of my art.

I'm hoping to make some prints very soon for Witch's Harvest @nightshademarket and Weirdo's Market @weirdosmarket, so let me know which ones you would like. I have plans to make limited edition sculptural objects with them as well! by @tigerdaughter_

I can finally show you my painting for '100 Amigos' at @astroclubartistfacility for @astroartsfestival! This painting is titled "Portus", and is acrylic on cradled wood panel, 12"x12".

I’ve been coming back to abstraction after many years away and it feels so playful and free. Here, I was trying to evoke a place of peace or escape, imagining another world. Water has always been important to me (the trickling sound of a stream, the silence when underwater, the promise of something secret and magical in the deepest depths) and so I wanted this painting to feel like one was enveloped by water.

Edit: sold out! Next one will be in June.

Our second craft night is happening on May 14th! Grab a ticket through the linktree in my bio. Tickets went real fast last time, so you should join my newsletter if you want first dibs.

Bring your own materials for a craft project - think knitting, embroidery, collage, drawing, scrapbooking, etc - or have a riffle through our studio hoard if you’re really hurting for inspiration. The emphasis here is to simply have fun in a social setting. Masks are encouraged but optional for this.

It’s free to attend, but if you’d like to donate a small amount towards keeping the studio and this event going, that would be much appreciated. There will be a tip jar amongst the snacks at the event.

Thanks for reading! Please share this and invite your friends!

Picked up this watercolour set from @ffrench at @weirdosmarket last weekend. Her art practice is really incredible and the page of pigment descriptions illustrates the magic that is Caitlin!

It was also very timely to get this rare set from them and make this painting with it, because 4 days later I joined the uterus-free club, which is something that Caitlin has been very vocal about!

For me, I’ve hoped for a hysterectomy since I was in my 20's but was pretty afraid of the process of trying to advocate for it. I never thought my periods were bad enough to seek care. But when I turned 40, I promised myself I would go for it. I started telling my doctors about the pain I experience, feeling like I was overstating everything just so they'd take me seriously. Endometriosis was mentioned, which I’d never even considered before. It was monumental to look at my life through that lense. And during my surgery yesterday, the surgeon was able to confirm that I do have endometriosis! What a revelation that, in fact, I was not overstating anything.

I try not to dwell on how long I lived with this; pushing myself to play sports, go to school and work while I was in so much pain. It feels like I'm starting a new life, one that isn't defined by monthly cycles. My hysterectomy hasn't solved the endometriosis, but at least now I have doctors who will treat it.

If you want more information about the procedure I had (there is so much misinformation out there), you should go check out @dwamdwamdwam's highlight. They talk about it in depth and answer a ton of questions.

ID: first photo is a palette of watercolour paints sitting on top of a sketchbook with a very Vancouver landscape painting of the ocean with mountains in the distance. A sheet of paper peeks out from underneath with the pigment descriptions. Second photo is me and Winda at the hospital after my surgery. by @tigerdaughter_

Some sneak peeks at the details of these masks. The meaning behind these is that they are meant to embody the complexities of diasporic Asian identity. They hold our hopes and frustrations, beauty and darkness. Masks are generally used as tools of transformation, and so these act as vessels or mirrors to communicate the universality of our individual experiences and emotions. They remind the children of the diaspora that we are a part of a unique history.

These are hanging at @luppolo_brewing now in MENDING : BELONGING / EXHIBIT, curated by Co-Share Collective, alongside works by @oderaigbokwe and @shrimp.jpegs. Please see my previous post for more info! You can contact me directly for any inquiries.

New shiny things are here! They will be at the Fraser Valley Tattoo Convention (@vancouvertattooshow) with me this weekend. Very very limited stock! These will only be available locally, no shipping, because it is so expensive 😭 I'll also have new mini prints and stickers.

I'll also be tattooing alongside @dwamtattoo, who will have their lino prints and patches! So many reasons to come give us a visit. I'll post a map of our location in my stories/highlights so it's easy to find us. by @tigerdaughter_

I have FINALLY updated my shop with the remaining little mask magnets! Each one is unique, I sculpt every single one by hand and so they all have their own personality. I don't really plan what they will look like, everything happens in the moment as I see what features start to appear from each tiny lump of clay.

The obvious choice is to put them on your fridge, but I love to put these on my ikea Vattenkar desk shelves and metal pen holders on my peg board, so I can see them while I work. It's nice to have a little friend cheering me on through my work days. Maybe they help to ward off bad energy from that boss I don't like (it's me I'm that boss that doesn't give my employee (also me) PTO)!

If you get one in the next few days, I'll ship it out on Friday! For those of you in the US, you should be able to avoid any extra taxes/fees from the new incoming tarrifs. After Friday I will be on vacation for 2 weeks so everything will get shipped out once I return and who knows what kind of extra charges will be added.

Local pickup is an option for those in Vancouver. I've turned off shipping to the US for now because it's wildly confusing atm but I hope to resume in the near future.

Next batch is in the works! by @tigerdaughter_

Moonlight (12x12", acrylic on linen) my painting for the @astroartsfestival 100 Amigos exhibition. I've been focusing a lot on sculpture this summer, so creating this painting was a nice opportunity to dive back into 2D work. It's hard to describe the thrill of being in the moment with an artwork and I must say that I really do still love painting a human face. Something feels very magical when it all comes together.

You can see this in person until Aug 25. Please email pablo @ elkartel.com to make an appointment. Or check it out online, I'll post the website once all the works are up. There are so many great pieces in the show by local talents, it’s absolutely worth a visit.

ID: a square monochromatic blue painting of a person sitting three quarters to the viewer. They look out a bit dreamily to the horizon, with an active but calm expression. The painting is filled with textures, so the portrait is not purely realistic. There are drags of paint that highlight the canvas weave, splashes and drips. by @tigerdaughter_
