I sing the first verse like you do except ill say something like always sunshine or beautiful sunshine (in French I sing jolie sunshine) but the 2nd verse i sing "the other night dear as I lay sleeping i dreamed I held you in my arms, when I awoke dear, twas not mistaken, so I kissed your head and smiled" (I co sleep with my baby so it fits) 😊 all old nursery rhymes are so morbid, why?

This is such a sweet version! I heard a version when I was pregnant with my daughter by the Hound + the Fox and that has been my daughter’s comfort song since she was a baby. I changed a just a few words but love that version of the song.

I sang your version to my 18 month old when she was a newborn, I hadn't sung it to her much lately but tonight she was having a hard time falling asleep and I sang it. She needed an hour of me singing it non-stop. If I switched to humming or stopped singing she sat bolt upright and patted my mouth and signed "more". Whatever she was needing tonight, this song was giving comfort!

Oh I wish I had this version when my baby was in NICU and I couldn't spend every night with him 🥺 5 weeks and I would tell him every night I left him that I might be out of sight but I'm right in his heart with him. Ugh I hated walking down those hallways after saying goodnight

I never liked the original, so I have sung this version to my little one since he was born, and it’s the lullaby that has consistently calmed him when he’s upset 🥹 But in the second verse we sing “and in the night dear, as you lie sleeping, I will be there right by your side”
