I never thought I'd hear this word from a non South-Asian person in my lifetime. But when I did hear it, I was even more surprised to hear come out of another POC's mouth (followed by countless other references to past atrocities faced by Sikhs in the past).

Now, this video isn't just about this word and current perception of South Asians across the world. It's really about how we interact with people within society. I had an opportunity to fight somebody over "insults", but I chose not to.

The question I ask you is: why would he say these words? Is it because he's such a hateful person that he looks down on South Asians? Maybe to a certain extent, but there's always a "reason" why someone is hateful. I wonder what the root of his attack was. Was it because he was fed up with life? Maybe he had nothing better to do and was having a bad day and decided to take it out on a random person. I can never really know.

The only thing I can control, is my reaction. If you let hateful people control your emotions, they become your master. Rise above their cheap insults. Easier said then done of course. You also can't sacrifice your safety.

However, being able understand people's intentions, allows you to view these kind of situations in a more holistic way. Which ultimately can help you avoid very real danger ( physical violence, injury, lose of life).

Stay safe out there guys. Remember that hate only breeds more hate.

Much Love.
