In Canada, thousands of people live with or are treated for sarcoma, and diagnosis can be delayed because many people are unfamiliar with the warning signs. Possible risk factors include: Radiation treatment for a previous cancer Certain inherited genetic conditions Chronic lymphedema Some viral infections Workplace chemical exposure Personal/family history of cancer Many have no clear risk factors Some tumours grow slowly, while others grow quickly and spread to other parts of the body.'.

Over 1,900 Canadians were estimated to be diagnosed with sarcoma and bone cancers in 2024. Yet, many people have never heard of sarcoma until it affects them or someone they love.

This Sarcoma Awareness Month, let's help change that. Raising awareness can lead to earlier recognition, earlier diagnosis, and better outcomes.
