This summer’s ICE escalation invited us to return to our conversation with @bobbyrogers_ from Issue 03, where we talked about the role creativity and art play during times of crisis. We met with Bobby during the height of Operation Metro Surge, when his team at @thebureau.co, alongside thousands of local artists, created works of protest art to educate, raise resources, and mobilize the community.
Along with artistry, Bobby talked about the relay race of activism: in any moment of crisis, each of us holds a different position. Some are cheering. Some are clearing obstacles. Some are pulling people over barriers. The work is collective, and it never fully stops between uprisings. It just changes shape.
