Lately, I’ve been thinking about little Sydney a lot.

The one who spent entire afternoons playing make-believe weddings. The one who made the dogs the groom and walked down imaginary aisle made by the dining room chairs. The one who thought getting married was the most magical thing in the world.

I wonder what she’d think if she could see me now.

I know she’d twirl the second she saw the dress. She’d definitely think my fiancé is exactly the prince she always imagined. She’d probably ask a thousand questions about where we’ll live, what our home will look like, and whether the dogs get to come too.

I don’t think she’d notice whether the dress fit perfectly or her skin was clear.

She wouldn’t care about the diet or the seating chart or the timeline or whether every little detail came together exactly how I pictured it.

She’d just be happy.

Happy that she gets to marry someone she loves. Happy to spend evenings talking wedding plans with her mom. Happy to be back in the home she grew up in for one more season. Happy that the same dogs she once dressed up for pretend weddings are still here beside her.

She would call it exactly what it is

a gift. 🕊️

And maybe that’s what God has been teaching me.

That this season isn’t something to perfect. It’s something to receive.

Because one day I won’t remember the calories or the checklist or whether every detail went according to plan.

I’ll remember sitting at the kitchen table with my mom talking about flowers. The excitement of counting down the days. The feeling of trying on my wedding dress. The quiet drives home. The answered prayers I almost rushed past because I was too busy thinking about what still needed to be done.

I’m realizing that becoming childlike again isn’t about going back in time.

It’s about remembering how to see the world like she did.

To see God’s goodness with wonder instead of worry.

To notice the gifts in front of me before rushing to the next one.

To receive today instead of trying to perfect it.

Because sometimes I think we spend so much time waiting for the life we’ve dreamed about…

that we don’t realize we’re already living in it.
