Twenty-three years after launching Log, founding editor Cynthia Davidson is handing over the helm to editor and publisher Julie Cirelli effective with Log 69, the Winter 2027 issue.

“I am thrilled that Julie is taking Log forward,” Davidson said. “When Log was launched in September 2003, no one anticipated its longevity, but as an independent platform for criticism and testing ideas in architecture it became a kind of lifeline for an entire generation of architects and designers. It’s now time to hand Log off to that generation, which Julie represents.” Davidson will continue as executive director of the nonprofit Anyone Corporation, an architecture “think tank,” and as editor of the Writing Architecture Series books with MIT Press. She also plans to focus on her own writing and teaching.

Cirelli, who is based in New York and Stockholm, is taking on Log while remaining director of Park Books. Previously editorial director at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she led the 2020 relaunch of Harvard Design Magazine, she has also worked at Phaidon Press and the New York Times. She has edited and authored numerous books of architectural criticism and theory, and her research on the social and political dimensions of the built environment has been supported by fellowships from Yaddo and Nordic Culture Point. She holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University.

“Cynthia has built an exceptional platform for architectural discourse, and to inherit it is an honor and a great responsibility,” says Cirelli. “We face an ever-expanding junkspace of artificially produced thought in unstable political, economic, and ecological conditions. Log offers a critical reading of our moment and a rare form of attention to ideas and practice in the built world. I am committed to shepherding it through whatever comes next, and to nurturing the next generation of architectural thinkers.”

Davidson’s final issue, Log 68 (Fall 2026), focuses on the concept and production of gardens, which she is presently editing with Winfred Ovur, who will continue as Log’s managing editor. Log 68 will be available in January 2027; Cirelli’s Log 69 will follow thereafter.
