Why are the Torres straights people have equal rights to us originals (aboriginals) main land people ?? Do your research there PNG descendants & fled to the islands & Torres straight is an Englishman name ! I got nothing against the Torres straight mob there deadly brothers & sisters but they ain’t our people! They shouldn’t be recognised in anyway when it comes to our country …that was an (QLD) government invention to have them recognised as the traditional owners so the true originals & owners get left out with nothing !!! Cause they worked for the colonialist killing us blackfullas…we need to know our history & protect it …from now on it’s should be only the ORIGINALS that be celebrated & paid respects too ✊🏽 (-0-) our history has been falsified without the ORIGINALS CONSENT 🫡
40 YEARS. 14 EIGHT-THOUSANDERS. Forty years ago today, on 16 October 1986, Hans Kammerlander and I stood on the summit of Lhotse. With that, I had climbed all fourteen eight-thousanders, without bottled oxygen. I was the first. People were celebrating a victory. I had never entered a race. I am not a competitive person. Let sport have its winners and losers. For me, alpinism is not a sport. It is a way of confronting the unknown, with no guarantee of coming back. My life was different then. I was much freer. I could devote almost everything to the mountains, make my own decisions and live with the consequences. I had family, of course, but my life did not yet have the responsibilities and priorities it would acquire later. I understand the fascination with being first. Peter Habeler and I were the first to climb Everest without supplementary oxygen. Then came all fourteen eight-thousanders. I never climbed for records, but I know what these firsts mean to people. And today, after seeing how much goodwill I receive here, I have learned to accept that as a great compliment. Thank you. But there is something I have learned about success. Everyone wants to celebrate you at the top. Few people are interested when you’re down. Nobody wants to carry the frostbite, the pain, the losses, the endless attempts or the risks. They want the photograph on the summit. They don’t want to pay the price for getting there. Forty years on, much of it has begun to blur. I don’t mind. I am not made for looking back. I never was. When an expedition was over, I moved on. The same with other chapters of my life. Not because I am particularly disciplined. It is simply my nature. The past is over. The future is not written. Life is happening now. So thank you to those who read my books, come to my talks and share their thoughts with me. You have given me a great deal. And a special thank-you to my haters. You’ve worked remarkably hard to keep my story alive. Not quite what you intended, I imagine.

Do you know about NYC’s goodest boy? This is Rex, the dog, who has been standing guard at @historicgreenwood over his owner John E. Stowe for over 140 years! Rex is one of the most memorable figures of Green-Wood cemetery. Visitors love leaving sticks at Rex’s paws, and occasionally you’ll see a toy or an image of a recently deceased fur baby. It is unclear if Rex is actually buried at Green-Wood cemetery, but his memory is here reminding us that a dog’s love is forever and all dogs go to heaven For more NYC secrets follow @themegandaily . PS: the barking you hear in this video is @floofycorginyc who wanted to be part of Mommy’s work!:-) #secretnyc #nychistory #newyorkhistory #didyouknow #weratedogs
