I meal prep. No thinking about food. Fucking amazing to just pull a dank meal out of the fridge and be nourished immediately and for cheap

It’s difficult to compare my progress as an artist now with my progress when I was young, financially supported, and didn’t have an employer who has rights to my time. I’m having to redefine my expectations of my velocity, and be proud that I’ve made music a priority in this stage of my life. I tell myself daily that just because I can’t practice 5hrs every day like my teachers told me to, it doesn’t mean I love my instrument any less. I love to set weekly practice goals instead of daily. This helps give myself grace when a day doesn’t go as planned, and time to anticipate and adjust to still meet that audition/performance deadline. Let’s remember that we as musicians provide a space for people to gather, undistracted and unplugged, and connect with each other. I’m proud of us 💕

Cutting out all substances, specifically alcohol and thc. And yes, that also means caffeine 😹 completely changed my life. Stone cold sober is the best way to achieve your dreams 💝

I work a hospital job. On work days I'm too mentally exhausted to do anything on the list except maybe practice. I wish I was joking. 😂 Also, what social life?

I just make sure to also budget time for regular emotional breakdowns and that seems to carry everything else.

I cry a lot. Then I proceed to do all this stuff, rotating priorities every day. We can’t be on everything every day with the same energy. I’m trying to put on top my rest schedule first (yes, I need that). If I get my rest, I’m more keen to do my work. But I always keep an eye on my mestrual phases as a compass for deciding what kind of activities are better for me to do and how much energies, in pure theory, I can spend that day.

Such a good question and such a good conversation needing to be had. I work remote part time and I have a husband who works full time. We both live very busy very active lives. We don’t yet have children so I guess that is how we make it work. I agree it is tough though and days off are needed to get through it all.

I’ve found a lot of benefit from essentially pomodoro technique to establish morning and evening routines that don’t leak out into the day when work and practice and life stuff happens. E.g. 1st hour of my morning- 3 sessions of 20min (no phone) reading/journaling, yoga/stretching, workout. No transition time, set a timer and go from one activity to the next. Spiritual, mental and physical are all ready to tackle the day.

It's insane and so real. When I had to hustle like this, I would score study on the treadmill early in the morning. Then work a shift of one my jobs. Then practice in between and work another shift of an evening job. I gave myself one day a week of social life and vocal rest and organizing businessy things. That being said, I hated my life 😂

Violinist here but I prioritize in terms of brain power lol. My instrument comes first as learning rep and working on technique takes so much brain space, so any non-music job needs to require less otherwise I’m tapped out
