My beautiful mom would’ve turned 80 years old today. It’s been just over 2 years since she left her body. I miss her (and my dad) so much. Hug your people tight and love on one another. I was going to add the song by Queen, ‘You’re my best friend’ to this post, but I didn’t want it to omit the audio of her that you can hear in the one video I included. She often sang songs to me, and we often sang together, off-key, usually fighting back tears. I always want to remember her singing that Queen song to me, with me. 🥹 Boy oh boy did she love singing along with Freddie Mercury. That reminds me of one Thanksgiving, many years ago, after I’d moved out of our family home, when I brought some friends and a boyfriend home for dinner, and once everyone had taken a seat at the table, she took out a little tape player boom box and played ‘teach your children well’ by Crosby Stills, Nash and Young, and got down on the floor next to my chair on her knees, and sang loudly while holding my hands, staring into my eyes. I BAWLED my eyes out at the table. 😭At the time I was mad that she did that, because she knew I would cry and ruin my makeup. Oh how I’d love to have her sing to me now! 💔 Speaking of my mom and music, one music-centric gift that my mom and dad gave Ian- the gift of piano lessons- has been the gift that keeps on giving. They would be SO PROUD of him and so overjoyed to hear him play. He plays for hours a day, usually from my dad’s old music books, often serenading me to sleep. I am so fortunate. 🎵🎹🎼
A happy life.
Good morning friends 🙋‍♀️🌞 When the good people at the Ontario Association of Optometrists asked me to help spread the word about eye health. I didn’t think twice. I’ve been wearing glasses since Grade 3, making me well aware of the importance of routine eye exams for pretty much my whole life. 👓 Social media and increased screen time has only made all of us more aware of the strain we put our eyes under every day. 💻 Every eye tells a story. And our eyes reveal much more than what we see. 👁️ My husband Aleks is living proof of that. A routine eye exam led to the discovery of a brain tumour. Comprehensive eye exams can provide valuable insights about our eye health and overall health— not just vision correction. 🧑‍⚕️ Get peace of mind and book your eye exam today. Make yours a priority. 🙏 Find an optometrist near you @ontariooptometrists and book a comprehensive eye exam at: https://optom.on.ca/find-an-eye-doctor Link in bio up top 🔝 Consider this your friendly reminder and take good care 🫶, Love always, Di 💗 #OAO #EveryEyeTellsAStory #Ad
They say that a picture paints a thousand words, so the smiles on our faces should say it all. This was reveal day and for the first time in a long time we could smile and joke. The day we were given our home back, the day a promise to Hannah was about to be realised. Two years in the making with ever barrier possible put in front of us but then the guys from DIYSOS gave us a new hope. They gave us the chance to dream again, to have optimism for the future. We can’t thank everyone enough for what was achieved over that 9 days to transform our home. The big guy @bashmawy is the truest of gentleman, his kindness and empathy throughout gave us comfort as we discussed the most traumatic parts of our lives. He was genuine, honest and to be honest, I don’t think we could have gotten through the interviews without him. He has become a truly caring friend. The person that hid behind the camera, @morlagh can only be classed as a guardian angel. She achieved the impossible, pulling everything together whilst always being mindful of us and our situation. She was so gently, kind and caring with us throughout the process and took such a special interest in Hannah. To everyone that knocked down a wall, swept a floor, painted a door, planted, built, floored, wired, plumbed and so many other jobs, THANK YOU. We have Hannah home and that is all down to you guys. @diysosireland #grateful #humankindness
