Day 1 — Mikuriya, Japan.

One minute a day, every day, for as long as I’m here.

This trip I’m not the one leading the work — I’m here supporting a group of students from Waiakea High School as they build a 3ft x 30ft installation. My role is to walk them through the early stages of Moʻopala: Huakaʻi first, then Manalima, then Pilialoha. The moʻolelo — the story the piece ends up telling — is theirs to find. That part comes from what they see here, what their teacher points them toward, and what the place gives them.

Following this one day at a time. More tomorrow.
