Long before Bourbon High was ever an idea, there was Ole Tex.
Our founders’ great-grandfather, Roy Kelly Jr.—better known to us as “Pap”—was the definition of an old Texas man. He lived life at his own pace, always with the windows down, never in a hurry, and never one to pass up a conversation with a stranger. To Pap, everyone had a story worth hearing.
He loved every corner of Texas. Whether he was raising his family in the Hill Country or taking his grandsons fishing on the Texas coast, he believed the best things in life were simple: family, hard work, good conversations, and making memories outdoors.
When the internet began changing the world, Pap worried that the old Texas way of life would slowly be forgotten. Wanting to preserve the values and traditions he loved, he created Ole Tex. He began selling Texas flags featuring the outline of the Lone Star State (pictured in the first photo) so that folks who cherished the good old days could have a piece of Texas to proudly display.
Years later, when Bourbon High was founded, Pap’s legacy lived on.
The Ole Tex hat was designed as a tribute to the man who inspired it all—a reminder of simpler times, old Texas values, and the people who taught us what it truly means to be Texan.
Some stories are too important to be forgotten. This is ours.
