Since her first appearance behind the podium this week, White House press secretary Katie Zacharia’s past has become murkier by the day. A WIRED review of deleted social media and professional networking profiles has helped clear up at least one mystery. Zacharia’s online resume shows a gap extending from 2013 to late 2023. For part of that time, she worked as an affiliate of Beachbody, a fitness company that ran a multilevel marketing operation she describes to WIRED as “sort of a pyramid scheme.” Zacharia says she was an affiliate marketer for Beachbody, following her 2013 return from China. She recalls being brought in by a friend and promoting its Shakeology product, which is promoted as a “superfood nutrition shake.” She stopped using and promoting the product, she says, because of its vitamin A content, which she didn’t feel was good for her while pregnant. Beachbody, now known as BODi, confirmed in a statement that Zacharia was among its 300,000 “independent Team Beachbody distributors” in 2013. Perhaps unsurprisingly for a company that relied on a multilevel marketing scheme for decades, the company has run into a number of legal issues over the years. It's been accused of falsely advertising a revolutionary anti-aging treatment (the suit was voluntarily dismissed), and making false or misleading income promises to contractors. In 2017, Beachbody, without admitting any wrongdoing, settled a $3.6 million consumer protection lawsuit with the city attorney in Santa Monica, California. Prosecutors alleged that Beachbody made health-related claims about its products. They also claimed in filings that Beachbody had been automatically charging customers credit cards for renewals of their products without their consent. As part of its settlement, Beachbody was ordered to pay $1 million to nonprofits that promote health and nutrition. And in 2023, Beachbody was hit with a class action lawsuit accusing it of scamming its coaches. Tap the 🔗 in bio to read the full story.

My world, y’all just living in it 🖤💋🌎
STORY TIME✍🏽 I ran away from home at just 10 years old. I lived on the streets and slept in abandoned trap houses. The streets raised me, and by the grace of God, I survived them. At 10 years old, I was already working. I got a job in sales at the Slauson Swap Meet, selling toys, socks, T-shirts, and hoodies. I made $100–$150 a week. I was their top sales girl, and my boss would give me an extra $10–$20 a week because of how well I did. I also worked part-time as a maid. With the money I earned, I eventually got my first little apartment. It was one big room in South Central Los Angeles, but it was mine, and I never looked back. No rich parents, no handouts, no investors. Just a little girl with big dreams who refused to give up. Fast forward to this photo. That’s me surrounded by my orders & shipping labels of my health and beauty brand, @thisfitsme, This Fits Me™. Over the years, my loyal customers have become family. They’ve supported me, believed in my brand, and grown with me. I never take that loyalty for granted, and I always make sure they know how much they mean to me. Sometimes I look at what I’ve built and think about that little girl who didn’t even know where she was going to sleep. I wish I could tell her what was coming. I’ve built multimillion-dollar businesses, invested in real estate and other tangible assets, and created opportunities I once couldn’t have imagined. And trust me, it hasn’t been easy. I’ve had setbacks, made mistakes, and had to figure things out along the way. But I never lost my faith. Every setback taught me something. I learned how to master my mindset, manage my money, understand the value of ownership, and make decisions that would build something beyond the moment. I didn’t just want to make money. I wanted to learn how to keep it, grow it, and turn it into something lasting. THE LONG GAME‼️ The girl they counted out is still here. Still building, still learning, and still dreaming bigger. GOD IS THE GREATEST. If you’re going through something right now, don’t let a challenging chapter convince you that it’s the end of your story. MY STORY CONTINUES… #SomayaReece #ThisFitsMe #WomenInBusiness #Resilience
NEW: Greta Thunberg smiles, takes videos, and talks with protesters in Paris, hours after school protests erupted into violence and rioters hurled fireworks at police. "They don't need me at all, but I do believe that we all have a duty to stand up." The footage shows a different side of the protests after violent and chaotic scenes unfolded in the streets earlier today.
