All in its own time..
I’m expressing my inner anguish through the majesty of song! 😂 #tbt #anchorman
I’m in deep despair as I write this tonight. RJ Mitte, my sweet son on Breaking Bad has died. I met him when he was only 14 years old when he was cast as Walter White Jr., a part he played with such joy and enthusiasm. Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never - ever - allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything. He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination. Always listening to the advice that his TV parents (Anna Gunn and myself) gave him - but being a teenager, sometimes mischievously ignoring the counsel in order to learn the hard way… He was one of the stars of a hit TV show - but still a kid. That kid was pretty raw when we started shooting the pilot in February of 2007, but little by little we watched him grow into a really fine actor. He parlayed his experience on the show to be a vocal advocate for performers with disabilities, and was the head of a philanthropic organization with a focus on helping the disabled community. All that promise and potential now is such a loss. It is especially devastating to hear that he took his own life. Why? We were texting each other just a few weeks ago - figuring out when we could meet for lunch. I don’t know if that lunch would have changed his future… But I do know that I loved him, and thoroughly enjoyed being with him throughout the years on the series, and after the spotlight on Breaking Bad dimmed… I’ll miss you, son. I can’t stop there without imploring anyone who is contemplating suicide to please call for the support you need at 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (https://988lifeline.org/). There is hope.
POV: when your home is the restaurant… ad I have someone VERY famous at my dinner table tonight, so I had to make a bit of an effort. For me, hosting is all about the little details. Delicious but simple food, beautifully dressed but not fussy tableware, feeling special without making it complicated. @victoriabeckham has just launched her first home collection with @westwingcom , and it is SO beautiful. Think sculptural shapes, hand-hammered silver and little touches of her signature hunter green. Everything feels really considered without being too formal, which is exactly how I like to host. My favourite pieces have to be the little shell butter dishes. So chic. And because no table is complete without bread and butter, I made my own little butter shapes using a silicone mould. Just 30 minutes in the freezer. Minimal effort, maximum effect. I love pieces that work just as beautifully for a dinner party as they do on a Tuesday evening. Shop the full WESTWING | VICTORIA BECKHAM collection now. And for dinner, my one-pan Chicken au Poivre. One of those recipes that feels quite fancy but is actually so simple to make. ONE-PAN CHICKEN AU POIVRE Serves 4, 390 kcal & 42g protein per portion Ingredients 4 skin-on chicken breasts or thighs 1 banana shallot, finely diced 2 garlic cloves, minced 1 tsp crushed black peppercorns 200ml chicken stock made using 1 chicken stock pot 150g half-fat crème fraîche 1 tsp Dijon mustard Squeeze of fresh lemon juice Method Season the chicken and sear skin-side down in a hot pan with a little olive oil until lovely and golden. Flip, cook for a few more minutes, then set aside. In the same pan, soften the shallot, garlic and peppercorns. Pour in the chicken stock, scraping up all those lovely crispy bits, and reduce slightly. Stir in the Dijon, return the chicken skin-side up and simmer until cooked through. Remove the chicken, turn the heat down, whisk through the crème fraîche and finish with a little squeeze of lemon. Serve with buttery mash to mop up all that gorgeous sauce and a simple green salad. #hosting #dinnerparty
And suddenly you’re 25, making your morning coffee. Working a 9 to 5. Too tired to do anything but eat and scroll until you fall asleep. Then do it all over again. The weekend arrives and either you go out or you collapse on the couch. And then comes the silence. When did life pass by so quickly? When did you stop being 15? The irony is that someday you’ll miss this very moment. Somewhere in the future a version of you, ten years older and more tired, is begging you to look up. To appreciate this stage with all its chaos, uncertainty, and unfinished dreams before it too becomes a memory you spend the rest of your life longing for. Btw, poetry book ‘Between Heaven & Earth’ is out now. It’s a collection of poems about love, heartbreak, loneliness, inner struggles, healing, and the quiet journey of understanding yourself and life along the way. If you’d like to read it, comment “Book” and I’ll send you the link. [poetry, poet, thefallenpoe.t, victorianpoetry, beinginyourtwenties, lookup, livefully, poetrycommunity]
