Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the government will establish fast-track courts to speed up trials in examination paper leak cases, declaring that those who attempt to destroy the future of India’s youth “will not be spared.” The Prime Minister said there was nothing more important than protecting the welfare and future of young people. He asserted that the proposed courts would ensure swift proceedings and stringent punishment for individuals and organised groups involved in leaking examination papers. The announcement comes amid widespread anger over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in competitive examinations. Student-led demonstrations have intensified in Delhi, with protesters demanding accountability, stronger safeguards for examinations and action against those responsible for compromising the careers of lakhs of aspirants. Modi had earlier described paper leaks as a “grave sin” and said the government was working to make the examination system foolproof. He also called for the strictest possible action against offenders and urged political parties not to treat the future of students as a partisan issue. India already has the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, which treats the leakage of question papers and answer keys as an offence. The law provides imprisonment of three to five years for certain offences, while organised examination fraud can attract five to ten years in jail and a minimum fine of ₹1 crore. However, concerns have continued over delays in investigation and prosecution. The government’s latest move is aimed at ensuring that accused individuals are tried quickly instead of cases remaining pending for years.

I recently returned to Cambodia, where we’ve been building the @maddoxfoundation — a 100% locally led organization — since 2003. I’d like to share a little more about our story. The @maddoxfoundation started with an urgent mission: to clear the land of mines left over from years of conflict, enabling locals to live and farm on it again. Once the land was safe, the work took on new shape. Now, our rangers — recruited and trained locally — patrol the Samlaut forest against logging and poaching. Women support their families through sustainable beekeeping programs. Students from remote villages can stay at the Samlaut dormitory to finish high school.
