4 months ago@timwolfebass I had an ex gfs guitarist buy a 62 strat off a USAF pilot in 66, he couldn’t take it home with him, so Pete bought it cheap, and ran it until, he said 71 or 72, and then blew the tail pickup, and bought the first DiMarzio single coil from the Ads in the back of Melody Maker, fitted it and refinished the instrument in a midnight purple sort of colour… he thought he’d screwed the value, and just kept working and working that strat, until he’d worn out the trem, and then he got offered £4500 for it, he turned that down, but due to the history, and even then the mods were now classed as vintage, and added value. It was appraised at about £9k in 2003…
4 months agoLove that you disconnected the bridge pickup that your grandpa never wanted in the first place - sounds exactly like a good P-Bass should.
4 months agoI would replace all pickups with DiMarzios or Schallers in color cream and reconnect the bridge pickup
4 months agowhen something valuable is destroyed in market terms, it becomes unsellable, which makes it priceless.
4 months agoWhy don’t you hook up the bridge pickup again? Can’t you cut it out with the slector switch?
4 months agoGiven the providence, and age of those mods, in period, they probably add value, I hope you still have DiMarzio P pickup.
4 months agoThe personal providence of the bass makes up for the lack of preservation.
4 months agoSo cool how he lived through the change to electric. Also that pick guard looks so boss
