Excited to present the official trailer for LEʻA a queer, Kanaka Maoli erotic short film written and directed by Kalani Axelrode (@kalaniaxe). The film is supported by Sound & Scene, the QTBIPOC Short Film Initiative from @newfest and @concord_originals.

Trailer by @uhleta

Inspired from a personal experience and a desire to challenge the ways Hawaiian women have historically been represented on screen, LEʻA offers an intimate and subversive exploration of sexuality, power, and the complexities of human connection.

Blending eroticism, suspense, and moments of unexpected tenderness, the film reimagines familiar narratives of desire through a distinctly queer, Kanaka Maoli perspective. What unfolds is a story that questions who holds power, who is permitted pleasure, and who gets to shape the images and stories of our bodies.

Set to “Breathe (2 AM)” by Anna Nalick, the most lesbian song of the fall.

To our cast, crew, collaborators, and community; mahalo nui loa for the care, creativity, and collective spirit that brought this vision to life. We are grateful to Lei Pua Ala, NewFest and Concord Originals for supporting our stories.

Full cast and crew credits in the comments x

I cannot imagine winning a better lottery than having a persian maman… and turns out my future kids are going to win that lottery, too ❤️

$Thrilled to have contributed the cover art to Joy Division Eternal, a box set of 14 CDs and two DVDs covering 16 concerts the band played in 1979 and 1980. Designed by Warren Jackson, Peter Saville, Howard Wakefield and Brett Wickens. -- The six different covers (box, 4 wallets and booklet) show "Sirius Through a Defocused Telescope a-f" 2023 which came about when I wanted to find out if I can film the twinkling of a star. The rapid tiny changes in the light of bright starts seen in the night sky. I chose Sirius the brightest star in the sky to record these images with a 8inch reflector. The cold white light of Sirius was refracted by slight turbulences in the atmosphere and broken into spectral colours, which you can even glimpse with the naked eye sometimes when seeing Sirius in the winter sky above the southern horizon (like tonight). The 'Unknown Pleasures' 1979 album cover by Peter Saville shows graphs from the radio signal of a dying star. -- A true fanboy moment was to have met Gillian Gilbert (of New Order) and Stephen Morris (of Joy Division and New Order) at the Hope and Anchor pub in Islington last week where Stephen was in conversation with Peter Saville, Jon Savage and James Zeiter. The same 100 capacity venue where Joy Division played their first London concert. The box is out now on Warner. @officialjoydivision @petersavillearchival @howard.wakefield #joydivision #neworder$

Still soft, still strong💙
