OneOff

There once was a firefighter, Sparky by name,
Who answered each call without seeking out fame.
For his town he stood tall,
Giving heart to it all,
And retirement won’t dim his bright, lasting flame.

For decades he served with true courage and pride,
With his brothers and sisters right there by his side.
Through the heat and the smoke,
And the laughter and jokes,
He was always the man on whom all could rely.

Now Sparky hangs up his well-worn helmet today,
But his legacy never will fade or decay.
For the lives that he touched,
And the love given so much,
Will continue to guide us long after his stay.

So here’s to old Sparky, a volunteer true,
Whose devotion inspired both the old and the new.
Though retirement has come,
His great work isn’t done—
For the spirit of service lives on thanks to you.
