Opening night at the Met.

There is nothing like it — one of the most glamorous evenings on the New York social calendar. Last week, after the premiere of the Met’s thrilling new production of Verdi’s MACBETH, nearly 750 guests crossed the plaza from the opera house to David Geffen Hall for dinner.

In this production, Malcolm’s advancing army marches on the castle camouflaged with tree branches — a forest come to life. We took that as our cue.

We hung grand tapestries of trees in the floor-to-ceiling windows, rising high like the glass itself, turning the grand promenade of the symphony hall into its own enchanted banquet hall. Below, long banquet tables overflowed with fruits and flowers, with dramatic candle chandeliers suspended above, echoing both the feasts within the opera and the abundance of the season.

Our rule at the Met is always the same: never replicate what is already on stage. That would be silly and disrespectful to this extraordinary company. Rather, the goal is to be inspired by the production — to create something sensitively adjacent.

And the room? Yes — the actual celebrities looked like stars, but the non-celebrities had so much style it hurt.

Yesterday’s spectacular sunset colors over NYC 🌅

From J. Hood Wright Park in Washington Heights, the sky exploded in shades of orange and gold, framing the majestic George Washington Bridge. One of those New York moments you just have to stop and take in.

Displayed on the blue signs is the text of "Trappings", a celebrated poem by Noelle Kocot.

“This shade is deafening.The river, as it ebbs.Sings a pretty song.Veils over the city, IGather up my skirts.It is not too late for joy,And the mornings with.Their sleek trees at the edges.Of metallic grass, striped.With rainwater is all blurry.I long to tell you of these.Floods that once were.”
