One of the hardest parts about moving somewhere new is starting from scratch. New routines, new faces, and trying to find your place in a community that already exists. Jessie and Hannah have been two of the first people to make this new place feel like home. Something as simple as having friends show up for an early morning track workout means more than they probably realize. With the NYC Marathon approaching, I’ve been thinking a lot about momentum. Not just in running, but in life. The importance of continuing to show up, putting yourself out there, looking inward, and trusting that God is working even when things feel unfamiliar. I’m learning that you can be incredibly grateful for where you are and still struggle with the transition of getting there. God has a funny way of putting the right people in your life at the right time. Grateful for these two, grateful for this chapter, and grateful for another day to get better. Slowly but surely, finding my stride. God is good!

In 1986, 22 year old Whitney and Paul Shaffer co-hosted an episode of NBC’s music variety show “Friday Night Videos”. Shaffer accompanied Whitney on piano as she performed a soulful rendition of “You Are Everything” (originally by The Stylistics).

All I want is justice and a chance to defend myself.” Najmeh Amini, a 23-year-old Iranian accounting student, has been sentenced to death on a charge of “blasphemy” over a social media post deemed insulting to the Prophet Muhammad. Under Article 262 of Iran’s Islamic Penal Code, insulting the Prophet Muhammad or other divine prophets is punishable by death. In a separate case, the Mashhad Revolutionary Court sentenced her to more than 12 years in prison on charges including “acting against national security” and “propaganda against the regime.” Amini was arrested by security forces at a shopping center in Mashhad following online monitoring by Iran’s Cyber Police (FATA). She is among more than 50,000 people who were arrested during the nationwide protests, according to HRANA. In an audio message from Mashhad Central Prison, Amini appealed to the international community, lawyers, and human rights organizations to review her case and help secure her right to a fair trial. 👉 Sentencing people to death for alleged “blasphemy” is a flagrant violation of international law, a fundamental assault on freedom of expression, and an appalling abuse of state power. 👉 Iran is one of the world’s leading executioners, second only to China. According to Amnesty International, at least 2,159 people were executed in Iran last year.
