The right man, perhaps, at the wrong time. Two European Cups, two Ballon d’Or awards and a European Championship: Karl-Heinz Rummenigge joined Inter in 1984, aged 29 and at the peak of his powers.
Alongside Spillo Altobelli, Kalle initially struggled to find the net. Then came the perfect day to break the deadlock: Inter 4-0 Juventus, with Rummenigge scoring twice. The beginning of a lasting love story.
Three seasons brought goals and unforgettable moments: a thunderbolt in the derby, a stunning volley against Torino and, above all, the goal that never was. Against Glasgow Rangers in the UEFA Cup, Kalle produced a spectacular overhead kick, only for it to be ruled out for dangerous play.
After the game, the referee asked him for his shirt for his son.
Some say Kalle is still giving him that look today.‌

Tre stagioni, tanti gol e giocate rimaste nella memoria: la staffilata nel derby, la girata contro il Torino e, soprattutto, il gol che non c’era. Contro i Glasgow Rangers, in Coppa UEFA, Rummenigge inventa una spettacolare rovesciata, annullata per gioco pericoloso. A fine partita, l’arbitro gli chiede la maglia per il figlio.
Qualcuno giura che Kalle lo stia ancora guardando male.
