— i spent a few days in #málaga in april and we had the incredible surprise of seeing the #semanasanta in the sunlit streets of this spanish marvel.
la ‘Semana Santa’ is one of spain’s most important religious and cultural celebrations, held the week before easter. It commemorates the passion of christ through grand processions in which brotherhoods (« cofradías ») parade with monumental floats called « tronos, » carrying richly decorated religious statues.
in málaga, la Semana Santa holds particular significance: it is a major event in andalusian identity, blending religious fervor, music, popular traditions, and strong community participation. the processions are famous for their gigantic tronos carried by hundreds of people, creating a very intense and emotional atmosphere. every year, thousands of visitors come to witness these spectacular parades in the city’s historic center.
