Cid not being a grump threw me off. I get how his relationship with Shera in the original may have made the Remake team want to sand his edges, but there was no reason to get rid of his short temper entirely. I would have found it hilarious if Cid, an aspiring astronaut, hated being reduced to a commercial pilot and carried the party reluctantly, only becoming more willing to help them out more once he learned Aerith was Ilfana’s daughter (a change that’s fine by itself).

I felt like they could have done the Cloud freak out moment. Of course, instead of punching Aerith, Cloud could have just gripping her by the shoulders while he’s having a panic trying to process why he gave Sephiroth the Black Materia. Aerith could say he’s hurting her, forcing Tifa and Cait to knock him out. It’s the same context, but the imagery is less brutal.

My first introduction to acid was in Kingdom Hearts, so in my opinion, he acts more like his KH personality in FFVII Rebirth.

Sorry, that’s not the same guy at all. Square copped out and made him really safe, no cigarettes, no swearing. I wouldnt mind them relaxing how much of a prick he is to shera, but him being a bitter foul mouthed prick is what makes his character compelling. He’s the blue collar worker who was screwed over by shinra just like everyone else, and he can’t live it down. Rebirth Cid communicates none of what the original did and I don’t see that changing in part 3.
