Back to back double podium days!
Round 4 of the Quaker City Karting Series was a great way to wrap up this past weekend’s double header. For once we had a dry track all day and it was great to run the track in reverse as well for the first time.
Starting off the day I wrapped up practice a bit off the pace in P7 for ROTAX and had a solid P6 in the stacked 206 field.
In qualifying for ROTAX, I qualified P7 a found a lot more speed compared to practice. In 206, the kart was hooked up and ran great and put it on pole! This was the second time I’ve put it on pole in 206, but my first time at Quaker. It was even cooler that it was while we ran the track in reverse.
In the ROTAX prefinal, I had a decent start but decided to collect a cone and dropped from 6th to last. I had a good recovery drive making up some sizeable gaps and finished 10th. In 206 I had a great start and led more than half of the race before falling to third up until the last lap. At the penultimate turn and heading down the straight, I lost out on two more spots and came across the line three wide to finish 5th.
In the ROTAX final, I was running decent at the start of the race but as I neared halfway my tires kept getting worse and worse, ultimately completely falling off in the second half of the race leaving me to finish P8/13, P3 out of the Great Lakes Sprint Series participants. When I came into after checkered I saw my tires were showing cords and knew I should’ve swapped tires to a new set.
In the 206 final, I ran well the entire race toward the front of the pack and came home P4/35 in one of the craziest races I’ve been a part of and P2 out of the Great Lakes Sprint Series participants.
All in all it was a great doubleheader weekend and I was strong in 206 in all sessions. I still have work to do in ROTAX but I’m making small improvements every weekend and know I’ll start running closer and closer to the front each race.
