While standard digital projection tops out at 4K resolution, a pristine 70mm IMAX film print holds an estimated equivalent of 18K resolution. The depth of color, rich contrast, and sheer scale of detail on the physical celluloid strip cannot be matched by existing digital projectors.
Because Nolan physically edited the film print by hand at the FotoKem lab, these 40-odd theaters are projecting the actual, physical copies of the celluloid that ran through his upgraded, quieter IMAX cameras during the 91-day shoot.
It’s essentially the difference between looking at a digital photo of a masterpiece painting on your phone versus standing right in front of the canvas in a museum. If you happen to live near one of those lucky 40 locations, getting a ticket is absolutely worth the effort!

Not sure why he is even making it, when he knows almost no one would be able to see this. Its not our fault that these cinemas are not there
