If I wanted more than anything to be a plumber, I would get training from a person who is an expert plumber. Someone who has done the work, learned the lessons and knows how to mentor in a way that makes sense to me.

I would not find a very intelligent lawyer who has studied law. Even though the lawyer is arguably very intelligent, and I am sure has a lot to teach me, I would not learn what I need to learn to be the best plumber I could be.

So why on earth are we asking advice from people who have no idea what we are going through? Seems a little *nuts* when we make the comparison, right?

I’ll tell you why. We look around at people who we look up to, who seemingly have it “all together” and know their stuff. We ask them for advice on *our* stuff. Sound about right?

But you know what? YOU are the plumber. You know what you need, you know the answer. And if you don’t quite know the path yet, that’s ok. But hang out with people moving in the same direction. Some people are happy staying put. But if you want to soar, you need to find the ones who are spreading their wings.
