America begins its 250th birthday celebrations.
It feels like things may get even worse before they get better.
My child is half American, so where this country is going matters to me. I hope her American side can be something she feels connected to, not something that feels harder and harder to understand from where she grows up. Why guns can seem to matter more than children, why families can be torn apart by masked people with weapons, why healthcare and equal access to education are not treated as basic rights, why mothers are pushed back to work only weeks after giving birth, and why women are still not trusted with their own bodies.
I hope her generation gets a better America.
