One of the most common things people say about this garden is how much time it must take to keep going. It’s true you do need a few minutes to spare to keep it looking nice, and now and then you need to put a shift in to keep the big stuff in check but on balance, the effort to enjoyment ratio is pleasantly in favour of the latter.
So much that I find myself looking for stuff to do. We just spent a day at Great Dixter, which is always a source of much inspiration and I’m looking around wondering if I can somehow incorporate a 16th century looking structure in here somewhere. The answer is probably no, but that’s the weekend’s task, should I choose to accept it.

I love this. Question: Which trees can I plant close to the house so their roots won't interfere with the underground water and septic pipes? I live in Costa Rica. I would love to have a more tropical look close to my patio, where we spend a lot of time.

Would you ever think of posting a plan of your garden ? The shapes and main plants? I am fascinated but have never ever gardened in my life as this is the garden I dreamt of. I didn’t think it was possible!
