All right..
A controversy has erupted at Symbiosis Law School in Nagpur after Assistant Professor Ahmar Afaq faced allegations of sending inappropriate and sexually explicit messages to female students and pressuring them to adopt Islam. According to reports, a female student showed the alleged messages to her father, who subsequently approached the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP). The organisation then raised the matter with the college administration and Nagpur Police. The allegations include claims that the professor encouraged Hindu female students to read the Quran, offer Namaz and convert to Islam. Some reports have also circulated claims about pressure to chant “Pakistan Zindabad” and threats to students’ careers, though these specific allegations could not be independently verified. Following the controversy, the university formed a high-level internal inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. The professor has been placed on leave and directed to stay away from campus while the inquiry continues. The committee will also examine concerns relating to his previous tenure at Symbiosis Law School in Hyderabad. The issue triggered protests outside the Nagpur campus on October 17, with members of student organisations demanding action and a thorough investigation. The administration also held a meeting with students to address their concerns. The case has raised questions about professional boundaries between faculty members and students, as well as the responsibility of educational institutions to ensure a safe learning environment. As of October 18, police had stated that no formal First Information Report (FIR) had been registered. The allegations remain under investigation, and the findings of the university’s inquiry are awaited. The professor has not been found guilty of the alleged misconduct, and the claims must be assessed through a fair investigation.
