Poor Medwine went head-to-head with another bull rhino and emerged significantly worse for wear. Territorial fights are a normal part of rhino life, but his cranial injury needed attention. Our SWT/KWS Mara Mobile Vet Unit was there to answer the call. Dr Aminga darted the patient and the team, with support from Partakilat Conservancy staff, eased him into position. While the wound was deep, it hadn’t caused irreparable damage and was quickly tended to. Treatment complete, Medwine ambled over to a nearby salt lick — bearing some impressive battle scars, but no longer so worse for wear. (Bonus points if you can spot the treatment’s wild bystander!) — Every day, our Mobile Vet Units — operated in partnership with the Kenya Wildlife Service — provide an emergency response to cases across Kenya. Their intervention protects wild lives and promotes coexistence with all manner of creatures.
