To a system that depends on us staying distracted, divided, and too busy to question what’s happening around us.

Our country. Our world. Has serious issues that deserve our attention. For me, celebrating today feels difficult when so many people continue to experience injustice, inequality, and suffering. It’s time to reconnect with ourselves, extend empathy to others, and recognize that many still don’t experience the freedom this day represents.

Until children are no longer exploited for profit, until those entrusted to protect communities are consistently held accountable, until healthcare and public well being are treated as priorities, I struggle to call us truly free.

We’re not fully free if people fear speaking their minds. We’re not fully free if education leaves out important parts of history or discourages critical thinking.

I love my people. I love the people in this country. That’s exactly why I want better,for all of us. I want a future where this day is something everyone can celebrate with genuine pride, knowing freedom, justice, and opportunity are realities instead of aspirations.
