Katie Zacharia is out as White House press secretary, according to people familiar with the matter, just a week after President Trump announced her appointment to the high-profile role. On Friday, Trump said he had suggested that Zacharia consider leaving the job. “I said, ‘Is this for you Katie? Because honestly, you don’t need this,’” Trump told reporters, adding that she had been treated “very rough” by the media. The president said he spoke to Zacharia earlier on Friday, just prior to his comments to reporters as he left the White House for a rally in Georgia. He said he counseled her, “Honestly, if I were you, I’d reconsider.” Zacharia’s first press briefing Tuesday was shaky, and her claims to be a lawyer have come under close examination following Trump’s announcement last week that he had chosen the conservative commentator to replace former White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt. The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that even though Zacharia repeatedly referred to herself as a lawyer, and Trump called her an attorney in announcing her appointment, she didn’t pass the bar exam when she took it in California in 2011 and isn’t licensed in the U.S. Zacharia said in an interview on Fox News’s “Fox & Friends” on Friday that she wasn’t asked whether she had passed the bar before she accepted the role. A White House official said Zacharia wasn’t hired by the president to work on legal matters. Read more at the link in our bio. Photo: Tom Williams/CQ Roll Call/ZUMA Press

Run It Back: Fake TV Songs From Moesha, The Parkers and Sister Sister Have the Internet Feeling Nostalgic Blogged by: Cliff_hill A simple question on Threads has the culture deep in its feelings: what is your favorite fake TV song? The replies quickly turned into a full-blown nostalgia session, with fans pulling clips from Moesha, The Parkers, Sister Sister, The Jamie Foxx Show and even Dreamgirls. Fake TV songs are the tracks that only existed inside the show. A character enters a talent show, forms a group, records a demo or performs at a school event, and somehow the song sticks with you for 20 years. You couldn’t buy them on CD or request them on the radio. You just had to catch the episode again in reruns and hope your VCR was recording. When TV Was Appointment Viewing The ’90s and early 2000s were a golden era for Black sitcoms. UPN and The WB built entire nights around shows like Moesha, The Parkers, The Jamie Foxx Show and Sister Sister, and families planned their evenings around them. There was no streaming, no skipping ahead and no binge-watching. If you missed an episode, you heard about it at school the next day and waited for the rerun. Those shows didn’t just make you laugh. They let their stars show off everything they could do, and many of those stars could really sing. Brandy sang the Moesha theme song. Countess Vaughn sang the theme for The Parkers. Tia and Tamera Mowry sang their own Sister Sister theme. Jamie Foxx created “Here Comes Jamie Foxx” for his own show, where he played Jamie King, an aspiring singer and actor working at his family’s Los Angeles hotel. Music wasn’t an extra on these shows. It was part of the DNA. Why Fake TV Songs Hit Different Fake TV songs worked because they came from characters we felt like we knew. When a character finally got their shot at a talent show or a recording session, it felt like a win for someone in your own family. The songs were often a little corny, sometimes surprisingly good, and always quotable. That mix is exactly why people still remember them word for word.
