The warmest of welcome at @FinchHattons, our newest @VirginLimitedEdition property in Kenya. In case you can’t tell, I was just a little bit excited to be there and to see everyone. The definition of a dream team.

Your gut will thank you for this one.

We all need more fibre in our diets, and one of my favourite ways to get it is through a warm, nourishing breakfast that actually feeds the beneficial bacteria living in our gut.

What makes this porridge so good for digestion is the combination of different types of fibre.

Rye flakes contain prebiotic fibres that our gut bacteria ferment to produce short-chain fatty acids like butyrate, which help nourish the cells lining our colon and support a healthy gut barrier.

Chia seeds absorb liquid and form a gel-like consistency that helps support regular bowel movements, while also slowing digestion and helping maintain steadier blood sugar levels.

And then there are the warming spices. Cinnamon contains polyphenols that may support a healthy gut microbiome, while cardamom has traditionally been used to support digestion.

I personally don’t tolerate oats very well, even gluten-free ones, so rye flakes have become one of my favourite alternatives. Just remember that rye does contain gluten, so it isn’t suitable for everyone.

I met Ene during one of the most difficult times in my life. I trusted him, let him in, and he took advantage of my vulnerability. He introduced me to f*ntanyl, c*caine, and m*th. Once I was addicted and dependent on him to get the dr*gs, the physical abuse began.

For years, I endured constant abuse, but in October 2024, things escalated for the last time. Ene became increasingly paranoid, accusing me of cheating, dr*gging him, and things I hadn’t done. No matter how much I tried to explain myself, things only got worse.

One night, he beat and strangled me so severely that, for the first time, I genuinely feared for my life. The next day, he forced me to photograph my injuries and send them to my family asking for money he intended to spend on dr*gs.

Over the following days, his paranoia worsened. He was losing touch with reality, accusing me of things that never happened. I knew something was seriously wrong, but I felt trapped, terrified, and unsure where to turn.

I hoped sleep would help. We laid down together and fell asleep.

On October 18, 2024, I woke up to him attacking me.

I tried to escape, but there was nowhere to go. He threw me around, slammed, kicked, and punched me. I remember falling to my knees, begging him not to kill me. I promised I’d do anything if he’d just stop.

Somehow, he did.

He let me crawl back into bed, unaware I was internally bleeding to death. For six hours, I drifted in and out of consciousness.

Then came the knock that saved my life.

Someone was banging on our motel door. Ene was banned from the property, and there was a mandatory protection order against him. Afraid of going to jail, he forced me to answer it.Without that knock, I would have died in that bed next to the man who tried to kill me.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, but for me, it’s also the anniversary of the most terrifying day of my life.

Ene spent years convincing me that I needed him, that I couldn’t survive without him.

Two years later, I’m living proof of just how wrong he was.I’m not just alive. I’m healing, growing, rebuilding, and thriving. 💜 #domesticviolenceawareness #dvsurvivor #wedorecover
