A California couple who made headlines after authorities discovered more than 20 of their biological children, most born through surrogates, have now been arrested on multiple charges tied to alleged child abuse. #SilviaZhang, 38, and #GuojunXuan, 65, were arrested after a yearlong investigation that began when their 2-month-old son was taken to the hospital with bleeding in his brain and retina. Authorities allege a nanny repeatedly struck the infant’s head against a desk. When investigators searched the couple’s sprawling Arcadia mansion, they found 15 children inside, most between 1 and 3 years old, with additional children living elsewhere. Zhang previously told investigators she and Xuan had 22 biological children, with all but two reportedly carried by surrogates. Six live-in nannies reportedly cared for the children, while roughly 25 surveillance cameras monitored the home. Investigators say footage showed multiple instances of alleged physical and emotional abuse, including children being struck and one child being forced to hold a squatting position. Prosecutors reportedly believe Zhang and Xuan knew abuse was occurring but failed to intervene. The nanny accused of seriously injuring the infant allegedly fled to China before she could be arrested. Authorities say the other five caregivers also left the country. Zhang and Xuan now face charges including child abuse, conspiracy and witness intimidation/dissuasion. Prosecutors are reportedly seeking $100 million bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations and flight risk. Xuan’s attorney maintains his client is innocent and says the nanny was responsible for the alleged abuse. Read more stories like this at OnsiteGlobalMedia.us (link in bio).
