What an amazing day yesterday at the Elite Junior Worlds. ❤️
Honestly, I couldn’t be prouder of every one of our competitors.
Before anything else, thank you to every parent. Thank you for giving up your weekends, travelling the country and investing so much into giving your children opportunities like this.
One thing I’ll never take for granted is the atmosphere we’ve built. Parents staying to support children that aren’t even their own. Kids cheering one another on. Everyone genuinely wanting everyone else to succeed.
That’s something really special.
What stood out to me yesterday wasn’t the medals.
It was the growth.
Sometimes you can actually see a child grow in front of your eyes in a single competition.
Noah Toothill was a perfect example. He lost a tough match in the Gi but stayed calm, kept thinking and kept trying to solve the problems in front of him. Then they met again in the No Gi… and Noah won. Not because he changed overnight, but because he trusted himself and made brilliant decisions. Watching that growth was incredible.
Melia and Tobias both looked beaten with only seconds left.
Neither of them gave up.
Both kept believing.
Both found a way to win.
Those lessons will stay with them far longer than any medal.
Then there was Kian Mullen.
Against a much bigger opponent, when most people thought they knew how it would end…
Kian just kept fighting.
He showed unbelievable courage and found a way to win.
And then there’s Jess Keating.
She didn’t win yesterday.
But she chose to move up a weight and face even bigger girls, despite already being one of the smallest in her own division.
That takes courage.
That’s why we compete.
Not just to build better Jiu Jitsu athletes.
To build young people who are resilient, courageous and willing to chase difficult things.
Every single child who stepped onto those mats yesterday grew.
As a coach, I couldn’t ask for anything more.
I’m incredibly proud of every one of you.
