Every Fourth of July I end up thinking about how easy it is to take freedom for granted. My grandfather served in the U.S. Army and earned a Purple Heart. I didn’t fully understand what that meant when I was a kid. I just knew he carried himself with a quiet kind of strength that didn’t need to be explained.

My parents raised my brothers and me in the middle of Los Angeles. It wasn’t glamorous at all. They taught us to work hard, show up when we said we would, and KEEP GOING even when life got uncomfortable. Looking back, those lessons probably prepared me for Hollywood more than anything else.

For years I chased a career behind the scenes. I served incredible artists build their dreams while quietly wondering if I’d ever have the courage to build my own. There were seasons where music felt farther away than ever.

Somewhere along the way I realized freedom isn’t only something a country fights to protect. Sometimes it’s the freedom to become who you’ve always known you were supposed to be.

Today I get to write songs and play guitar. I get to stand on stages and tell stories that mean something to me. None of that happens in a vacuum. It exists because people before me sacrificed and opened doors they might never get to walk through themselves.

So today I’m just grateful.

Grateful that after all these years, I finally get to chase the dream that never really left me.
