What is it about women’s tummies that makes everyone want us to hide them? Last night I was invited to give a speech at the @annafreudcharity Gala, wearing the most beautiful dress. I felt amazing. 💙 But while having my picture taken, I heard that familiar, well-meaning advice: “Suck your tummy in!”. “I like my tummy” I said. Ironically there was a statue of a woman at the venue that we were al taking our photos by because the room was GORGEOUS - and she had curves and a tummy. it got me thinking, how deeply we’ve absorbed the idea that a woman’s tummy is something to disguise. I look at those beautiful ancient Greek statues, with their curves and soft tummies, and see a body quite similar to mine. We admire those bodies in art, so why are we so uncomfortable with them in a photograph? I’ve had two babies, but having a tummy is also just my body type, and I don’t think we should need a reason or an excuse for it. I actually think a tummy can be really sexy and beautiful, and I’d quite like to enjoy my dress without holding my breath. 😂 And what a night to enjoy it at. ❤️ I’ll be honest, I hadn’t heard of Anna Freud before they invited me to speak, but researching their work for my speech made me want to shout about them to everyone. At a time when so many children and young people are struggling with their mental health, the work they do is so needed. My speech was about why supporting children matters so much, and part of what I love about Anna Freud is that their work also supports the families around them. Because when we feel supported, we have so much more to give our children, and parents need somewhere to turn too. It was such a privilege to be in a room full of people helping make that support possible. Thank you for having me, Anna Freud, and for everything you do. ❤️ And of course my glam team who also always hype me up! Hola 👋
The awesome thing about Sheraton Maldives? We landed in Malé, took a ten-minute speedboat ride, and reached the resort before the kids could ask, “How much longer?” 😅 We spent our days swimming, playing in the sand, eating at Masala Hut and learning a few Maldivian skill. . . although none of us will climb a coconut tree professionally anytime soon. We also adopted a coral as a family. We attached the fragments to a frame, helped place it in the house reef, and now the resort will send us updates as it grows. So yes, we came home with hundreds of pictures. But we also left a tiny piece of our family growing in the Maldives. 🪸 @sheratonmaldives #SheratonMaldives #GatheringsBySheraton #MarriottBonvoy #hostedstay #BeyondOrdinary
