✨Part 1 of Classroom Setup NON NEGOTIABLES⬇️

🎒Having a student-friendly alphabet
🧠THE WHY; It’s not visually-cluttered, it’s curriculum-aligned, the text is easy to read, and the letters have proper formation with handwriting lines. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!

🎒Laying out the classroom for behaviors and accomodations, not “aesthetics”
🧠THE WHY: Prepare student spaces so that they are the least distracted. Keep anything you want kids out of, out of reach, and keep systems in place in case you have friends who elope, hide, or need preferential seating.

🎒Nixing the teacher desk
🧠THE WHY: It creates clutter and has never been a functional space for me. I use my small-group table to prep, plan, teach, and monitor from. Everything is in one place.

🎒Using filing cabinets as room dividers
🧠THE WHY: Instead of having them waste space by lining them up, use them strategically to section off your calm down corner, individual work spaces, or your reading corner.

🎒Placing floor markers or sit spots down to mark desk and table legs
🧠THE WHY: Your seating will always be where is should during the year, so set yourself up for that now!

🎒Organizing my picture books by a color-coded system
🧠THE WHY: This is an EASY way to keep your books organized, whether you use this system for read alouds or your classroom library. It also helps introduce kids to genre and different kids of books. Not sure how to color code your books into a system? Grab the one I use in my TPT shop! I have it linked under “featured resources!”
