Today I turn 40. Not quite sure how that happened. I’m pretty sure I was 27 last year. Anywayyyyyy … I thought turning 40 would feel like I needed to have everything figured out. The perfect marriage, career, the perfect home, body, children, the perfect balance…a curated life. Instead, I’m entering my 40s with a much messier, but much more real, understanding of life. I’ve learnt that you can love people deeply and still need boundaries. That family can be complicated. That some relationships change, some disappoint you, and some surprise you by becoming stronger than you ever imagined. I’ve learnt that marriage isn’t always grand gestures and butterflies. Sometimes it’s two exhausted people trying to find their way back to each other in the middle of life. And that’s how it’s been for Karan & me. I’ve learnt that motherhood changes you in ways you never anticipated. That there are seasons where your own dreams have to take a back seat, and that doesn’t mean you’ve lost yourself. Sometimes you’re simply becoming someone new. I’ve learnt that success is transitory. I’ve had moments where I was at the absolute top of my game, and moments where I wondered what happened to that version of me. I’ve learnt that moving countries, homes, careers, identities and versions of yourself is f**king exhausting… I’ve learnt that not everyone needs access to you. Not every battle needs to be fought. Not every misunderstanding needs to be explained. And not every person you lose is a loss. I’ve learnt to stop measuring my life against timelines that were never mine. So here I am. A little softer. A little wiser. Definitely more tired. A lot more tired. Much less interested in proving myself and much more interested in being myself. I don’t know exactly what this decade will bring. But I know I want it to feel like mine. More presence. More laughter. More courage. More saying no without guilt. More saying yes because I actually want to. More beautiful moments that never make it onto Instagram. And really. More standing up for myself. Oh and Greek yogurt is a perfectly good cake 🎂
footage from last night shared by witness shows Masked HSI agents leaving NYPD’s 50th precinct. Witness who shared this video says they believe NYPD supplied them with zip ties. While previously in the parking lot ICE & HSI were not supplied with the butterfly zip ties. Again, while elected officials speak about disdain and support they must he held accountable by what their systems do. While negotiations were spoken about by Zohran Mamdani for the release of Oscar Belgal. His police force directly coordinated behaviorally, strategically and materially for the goal of detention and expedited deportation (which has been temporarily blocked by a federal judge)
