$TNHT Staff: @YesThatsDee ___________ Neighbors, an 87-year-old Tennessee woman who dedicated her life to helping others is recovering after she was brutally attacked inside her own home, allegedly by someone she had recently helped. ___________ Dr. Ellena Gooch-Reid, a civil rights activist and minister who once stood alongside the late Rep. John Lewis, was beaten during a September 9 home invasion in Ripley, Tennessee. ___________ According to WMC, she was discovered lying in a pool of her own blood with nine wounds to her head, chest, and arms. She also suffered fractures to her right hand and left arm. ___________ Gooch-Reid believes one of the people responsible was a young man she had helped get clothes for school shortly before the attack. She also recalled an older man entering her home and repeatedly striking her in the head. ___________ Police have identified two suspects, Kevin Harper Jr. and an unnamed juvenile. Both face multiple felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated assault, especially aggravated burglary, especially aggravated robbery, and aggravated abuse of an elderly person. ___________ Neither suspect had been arrested as of the report. Gooch-Reid has been in and out of the hospital but is recovering physically. However, she says the emotional trauma remains, revealing that she continues to relive the horrifying attack through nightmares.$
