We’re proud to announce that American photojournalist Nicole Tung (@nicoletung) is the winner of the 2026 Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award!
Her award-winning body of work chronicles 13 years of conflict in Syria and Ukraine, documenting the devastating human cost of war and the resilience of communities living through it.
This year’s honorable mentions recognize two exceptional photographers whose long-term projects shed light on overlooked injustices:

Nicole, I am doubly happy about this recognition; no one reminds me more than you do of my friend Anja, with whom I shared moments of both joy and tension in Fallujah, and from whom I received affection and invaluable advice. Goodbye, Anja—wherever you are, your smile will always be with me.
