Matthew D'Amato

RSA Projects Gallery presents “The Archive as a Mirror” by Matthew Damato, a Portland-based creative. This solo exhibition is a reflection of Matthew’s influences, interests, and obsessions and weaves together risograph printing, photography, and mixed media work. A research library will be provided by Ambulatory Archives to showcase how art-historical references impact his present work.

Matthew hopes to start a dialogue surrounding research, collecting, archiving, and the importance of printed material today. The showroom will host a large collection of books, magazines, and ephemera, running the gamut from tattoo culture to modern art to physique photography. Available to the community as a free resource, this curated library encourages slow browsing and open discovery, revealing the fluid relationships between printed matter, the surrounding artwork, and the ideas they hold.

The Opening Reception will be held on Friday July 31st 2026, 5-9PM with music, hors d’oeuvres, drinks, exclusive merch, and the artist in attendance. Free to the public! Certain rare publications and site-specific installations available during opening weekend only.
