Now that I finally have my copies of Käreitär vinyl in my hands, I find it suitable to mention a word or two about the album’s themes. The title came to me while attending a course about Finnish folklore. “Käreitär” is a mother and root of all foxes, a deity you could add to your prayers when going hunting. At the same time, I had found fox tracks in snow near our cabin, so pieces started to find their places. Add the character of a fox as a trickster and clever animal and the fact that aurora borealis is called ‘revontulet’ (fox fires) in the Finnish language, and you have a symbolic tale of how nature is always out of our reach, especially during these modern times. We can try to follow and understand it, but nature has so many mysteries so we can just stumble in the dark after all. And the fox is laughing in the night sky and weaving her tail…
In general, the album is a collection of small observations about my surroundings and experiences, especially during the days of winter, when the ice is humming under your feet, the stars are rising even higher and the ancient song of your soul bird is echoing in your ears stronger than ever before. These themes combined with Atvar’s soothing guitar work make this album a very calm confronting journey for me, hopefully for you too.
Kudos to Final Agony and New Era Productions for releasing this in vinyl and CD formats. The next Circle Of Ouroborus album is behind the corner.
