It’s been 54 days since TDS and my cardiac arrest. Almost two months to process what happened and what it means for my future. I’ve come so far, but still have miles to go. Jennifer described it well this morning: We’re so happy, but there’s an undercurrent of melancholy. People who have experienced something similar have told me that the initial tenderness fades, that the technicolor beauty of life that settles on you in the days & weeks following a near-death experience goes away. I don’t know that I can stop that from happening, but I do know that I’ll never stop being grateful for every second of every day from now until the day I die. I’m thankful for my wife and kids beside me, for deep conversations with friends, for the pop of yellow in the wildflowers along a trail, and for a thousand other tiny details. Giddyup, but don’t forget to breathe in the beauty of the world. #cardiacarrestsurvivor #beautyfromashes
