@howsongsweremade Michael Jackson’s perfectionism became one of the defining traits of his career. During the 1991 Dangerous sessions, producer Bruce Swedien revealed that Jackson would often record dozens of nearly identical vocal takes, searching for tiny differences in feel, timing and emotion that most listeners would never notice. That relentless attention to detail helped shape Dangerous into one of the biggest albums of the decade, selling more than 30 million copies worldwide and producing nine singles, including “Black or White,” “Remember the Time” and “Jam.” It’s also one reason there were often four to five years between Michael Jackson albums, with every song refined until he believed it couldn’t be improved further.
