Echizen City has joined the “UNESCO Creative Cities Network” in the Crafts and Folk Art category. This exhibition is being held in collaboration with the city to mark this occasion.
Echizen washi has been nurtured by Japan’s natural environment and has evolved uniquely over the course of 1,500 years. While Echizen washi has been used for a variety of purposes, its durability and beauty have made it a long-cherished choice for woodblock printing paper.
This exhibition features new woodblock prints created by 16 contemporary woodblock print artists using Echizen washi paper. We invite you to enjoy the charm of these new forms of expression combining Echizen washi paper and woodblock printing.
