One sketch. One submission. One year later…

Today, I was presented with the very first newly designed Deployment Support Command Excellence Challenge Coin on behalf of Commanding General BG Davis.

Over a year ago, Deployment Support Command held a contest inviting Soldiers across the command to submit ideas for a new challenge coin.

I decided to take a chance.

Today I found out that my design was selected as the winning entry.

As an artist, it’s an incredible feeling to watch something that once existed only as an idea become something tangible that will now be carried by Soldiers and leaders throughout the command.

This moment reminded me that creativity doesn’t have to stay inside a studio. Sometimes it finds its place in uniforms, traditions, and organizations that will carry your work long after you’re gone.

I’m beyond grateful, humbled, and incredibly proud to have contributed a small piece to Deployment Support Command’s legacy.

Here’s to continuing to create—in all walks of life.

Who would’ve thought the same hands that paint canvases would one day design a challenge coin for the U.S. Army?
